We express our sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Zev Gelbendorf of Staten Island, NY, and the entire Gelbendorf family for the recent passing of their beloved father and grandfather, the prominent Breslover Chassid, Rabbi Ephraim Gelbendorf of Jerusalem. He passed away on 28 Shevat at age 88.
We join the rest of the American Yeshiva community and Klal Yisrael in mourning the passing of Rabbi Avraham Abba Friedman, zt"l, founder of the Orthodox community of Detroit, and one of the outstanding figures in Jewish outreach of the 20th century. Like his revered mentor, HaRav Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz of Mesivta Torah VoDaath, Reb Abba was outstanding in his love of every Jew -- indeed, every human being -- but he loved all tzaddikim and Bnei Torah with a special chavivus. He praised Breslov Chassidus highly, and brought young Baalei Teshuvah to the Breslov Center to expose them to teachings from Rebbe Nachman. He once commented: "My Rebbe, Rav Mendlowitz, used to teach a weekly class in the Sefer HaTanya. But he would always remind us: 'Likutei Eitzos is also an awesome holy book!'" Reb Abba passed away on Shabbos, Parshas Yisro, 20 Shevat / 2.2.02. May his memory be a blessing.
